Isaac Backus is a data scientist, engineer, and astrophysicist working at WhyLabs. He is currently working on WhyLabs’ open source statistical data logging library WhyLogs. Alongside that, he is building ML and statistics driven monitoring of data logs in production ML pipelines.
In 2018 he co-founded the Seattle based startup atsu at which he was the data science team leader. Atsu worked to deliver machine learning pipelines and data visibility into enterprise operations with large HPC/batch compute farms.
He received his PhD in computational astrophysics from the University of Washington in 2017, where he studied the early stages of planet formation by developing and running large HPC simulations which he analyzed using statistics and machine learning.
